LWPS X: King Richard, the 3rd LWPS Double Crown, SnGs Galore, and the Leaderboard Heats Up

At this stage of the season, the focus has really begun to shift to the LWPS Leaderboard, in particular towards the coveted 15 seats for the $600 Grand Finale Bounty Shootout in December. With double points on offer for MTTs and ranking points at stake in Sit n’ Gos, lots of new kakis took the opportunity to get on the scoreboard; those in the middle looked to climb, while those within the top 15 looked to further cement their positions.
One of those who found occasion to do so was Liew Kok Kong, whom many of you will recall as the LWPS VII champion. The affable Mr. Liew had a weekend to remember, as he took down the Corona Extra Rebuy Event, picking up a hefty pile of ranking points, and pole-vaulting himself to the top of the Leaderboard. With 10,800 points, Mr. Liew has almost certainly locked up his Bounty Shootout seat for the Grand Finale. In addition to all that, he now joins Champagne Tan and Daniel Chua in the elite club of LWPS Double Crown Champions (you need to win both a Main and Side event to qualify). Needless to say, membership has its privileges.
Another with reason to celebrate was Richard Lim, who in his maiden LWPS final table also decided to go on and win the title. Richard, one of those players whom most kakis seemed reluctant to take a flop with, outlasted a stacked final table comprising Messrs Daniel Chua, Chris Lai, Joseph Kim (making his umpteenth final table), Pokerstars Supernova Jacky Wang, as well as runner up Kenn Tan, who was a whisker away from bagging the title himself. Kenn navigated numerous minefields at the final table, and had the chip advantage coming into heads-up play, before a couple of big flips cruelly concluded his tournament journey.
The SnG Bonanza also proved an instant winner amongst the kakis, with SnGs re-spawning like wild mushrooms. Chips in one hand and a Corona in the other was pretty much the order of business throughout. We were hard pressed to find a SnG table that wasn’t doubled over with laughter every other minute. One table even created their own SnG Bounty, with the popular Christian Christopher collecting the lion’s share of heads, cash, and leaderboard points. Just goes to show really, that a bad day at poker is still better than a good day at the office.
Keep your eyes peeled for the truly extraordinary promotions in store for the season’s penultimate LWPS, which we’ll be announcing over the next few days. Till next month!
