Pokerstars Blocks US Players from Real Money Games - Updated

Posted by : ikelos on Saturday, April 16, 2011 permalink

In response to an indictment unsealed by the United States' Department of Justice yesterday, the owners of Pokerstars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker were charged with violations of the Illegal Gambling Business Act and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Arrest warrants have been issued for all owners named in the indictment. At time of writing, both AP and FTP have taken no action, while Pokerstars, the largest site in the world, has blocked US players with immediate effect. It is not yet clear if this will serve as a temporary solution, or become permanent policy.

The world waits with bated breath while the lawyers of these sites scramble to put an actionable plan together and the US based Poker Players Alliance rallies its masses and lobby arms to combat the criminalisation of online poker. Like the UIGEA of 2006, this indictment threatens to change the entire landscape of online poker. Stay tuned for developments. In the meantime, overlay overlay overlay!

Update - Full Tilt Poker is now closed to US players, pending the outcome of the indictment
