Living in Cambodia and playing poker

Postby btown » Tue Oct 21, 2014 12:58 pm

I’ve been living in Cambodia for about a year now and I’m loving it. The cost of living is cheap. You could find a nice apartment for as low as $200/mth or if you prefer a hotel, Riverking Poker Club can help get you discounts on hotels. Girlfriends are plenty. Liquor prices are low, better than back in the states. Many bars that are full with lots of ladies. If you’re not the bar type then there are clubs like Pontoon, NOVA, or Saint Tropez that are mainly packed with tourists. You could easily play poker and make $20-$40/day and pay for your cost of living and still have money to party. Phnom Penh Riverking Poker Club is a good place to stop by if you’re newly visiting Cambodia. They can help direct you to places of where you want to go.

The guys running the Riverking poker room are all from the states who have lived in Cambodia for a while. They’re friendly and very helpful.

Lots of fish. Some don't even look at their cards and they're going all in. If you're looking for big games, they have 5/10 or 10/20 omaha that the regulars usually play. I usually stick with the 1-2 or 1-2-4 hold'em.

Interesting comment directed at me during last night's game. I raised in middle position with 9s 6s and ended up winning a decent pot when a 7 hit the river to complete my straight. When I showed down my hand one of the French regulars commented that my range is loosening and that he was surprised at my hand because his initial impression of me was that of a disciplined player and a "nit." I couldn't really argue as compared to the ranges of the other players in this game, the characterization is fairly accurate.

Coming to PP at the end of Sept. for a visa run, going to stay the weekend for some poker & food.
I was told about the Riverking, Naga and redfox, What info can you tell me about the rooms and what type of players I am looking at...what ever info will help....also is the Hotel Zing a nice place to stay, or is it best to call the Riverking to get help with a room?

Riverking usually start their games around 1-2 in the afternoon and can go on til late, or even continue on to the next day.
Free food, drinks, and Draft Beer. they normally have 3 games running which are two tables of 1-2-4/ 3 blind hold'em game and 5-10 or a 10-20 PLO. And I gotta say, dealers are pretty fast. great place to play and to socialize.
I'm pretty sure Riverking can help you find a decent hotel. Give Riverking a call whenever you touchdown..(+855) 097 663 8233
