$700 Step 5, failure to make Step 6

Postby felixleong » Mon Jun 02, 2008 10:44 pm

Taken from my blog

This week, after busting like 10-15 times in step 1 and another 5-6 when up at step 2, today I got a streak of luck and busted all the way from step 1 to step 5 without dropping at all!!!
Man I almost made it a 5 in a row when in the final 3 handed play in step 5, I was up against 2 sub-optimal players. Their plays were fishy but I didn't manage to catch any real hands in the final rounds.
I struggled being short, struggling at 1.5-2.5 chips for 10-20 hands.
Both of them had like 4-6k chips playing me around.

In the end I moved in with KJ in SB and got called by AJ and it was over... back to step 5 again.

Tomorrow morning after bathing and brushing my teeth, I will queue in step 5 again. It takes quite some time to fill up and hopefully I can move up to step 6 for the final battle, vying for the 12.5k WSOP package!! Just 2 more stages to pass, can I really do it???

I might also consider taking a break from the cash games and full devote myself fully into the WSOP steps. From what I see, the field seems to be even softer due to the 2x VPP promo, previously in step 4 most players were solid TAG SNG grinders. But today even at step 5 half the table were fishy with over 20 vpip including 3 guys over 30vpip. It really seems very profitable playing the wsop sats since I'm supernova + double vpp promo = over 50% rakeback.

But still I will still follow my practice of starting from step 1 and grinding all the way up. Its time consuming but very low cost and extremely profitable ^_^

Steps 4 to 6 are seriously so nerve wrecking, any of you guys chionging the WSOP steps too?
Since now is double VPP promo for the month only for WSOP sats.
I'll probably put in some sessions grinding purely the wsop steps only as its now flooded with fishes

Hope you guys come along for a ride too ^_^

I'm so sick of starting over at step 1 all over again~ haiz.. sadness man

On the river I'm expecting to see my opponents turning over more straights or trips then full house as a set 22/77/33 would had played it fast out on such a drawish board the only remaining hand after the turn call to make the full house is 25
27 or 23 would had usually gave a good bet on the flop

I still think my push on the river makes a little more chips in the long run, its just painful to be facing the full house today

Or was it just wrong to shove the riv to maximize gains?

imho,
its Step 5 and considering the bettings done on flop and turn, i kinda think the push on river will only be called by a fullhouse, nut flush (which you have) or at worse a straight. Dont think anything else can call the river all in?

hm... i also suspect that I played that river wrongly.
I was expecting A2/K2 for trips, a straight or a full house to call since he bet out on the river
Ah... maybe I'm just too greedy for the chips hahaha, but i rarely flat call here , mostly shove or min raise to suck him in as I put myself ahead of his range of possible hands ( more straights and trips then full houses )
