Las Vegas Sands has announced that it plans to launch the company’s much delayed Singapore casino project in April, this year. The company, which originally planned to launch the casino in 2009, suggested that its dedication to the project “never wavered”, but because of the economic downturn the project was hit with delays. Las Vegas Sands has announced that alongside the casino, the resort will also offer 936 hotel rooms, as well as a shopping mall and a convention centre.

While Las Vegas Sands has reported revenue losses in Las Vegas, its Macau operations have steadily grown throughout 2009 and it’s believed executives are keen to break into the emerging Singapore casino market. As of now, the company’s main competition in the Republic of Singapore is the newly opened Resorts World Sentosa. At the time of opening, the new casino was swamped by eager visitors and is currently the only casino in the city-state. Las Vegas Sands has announced that in June 2010, the company will unveil the “second phase” of its resort, which will offer a sky garden and retail space.
