"Grinding" Online Poker?

Postby LunarWolfspirit » Thu Apr 01, 2010 7:39 pm

So I've heard stories about people "grinding" online poker at the micro stakes, and claim to be able to make $10/hr doing so.

Is there a particular technique/secret to doing so?

I find it quite amazing that most of these online players are able to keep up 4+ windows of Poker going at one time. Don't you kinda need to pay attention to the players at the table?

Do they simply use a simplified set of rules to play? i.e. Play suited connectors, paired hole cards etc?

I'm considering entering online poker myself, but I would greatly appreciate if someone who frequently plays online can share their insight / experiences. i.e. How much did your bankroll start with? What stakes did you play? What kind of games? Is there a shift in difficulty when your bankroll grew?

Wikipedia wrote:Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive and/or non-entertaining gameplay in order to gain access to other features within the game... basically the same strategy over and over again, in order to advance their character level (in this case, $$) to be able to access newer content (higher stakes)....

Why I ask this question about "What exactly is Grinding online" is not really about the max quantity/capability that one can grind at a go, but the method and results of grinding. Also, note how the definition of Grinding insinuates "ensured success".

Do your grinding sessions always end in a net profit?

If so, is it possible to just make micro-stakes poker almost like a "day-job" where you can securely play, using a set strategy, build up your bankroll to move to higher stakes?

How can one focus on the type of players you are up against? Let's say for example an 8-handed ring game. 20 games at once = 140 other players!

Is grinding really effective? I tried opening 4 tables. I got really confused and made many wrong decisions lol.

I usually do 1 - 2 tables, so i play in peace and with A game the whole time :D

messageforearth : Depends on your games, u can slowly increase the table of play, when u feel comfortable to play at 2 , u can slowly start to play 3, and slowly slowly increase,
Base on the VPIP u play , u can know that the hands u play is round 10-20% so u will not always need to made decision during the play
