I was trying to play short stack in these games, to admit I'm still learning the game. So be free to advice and give comments on my play. Lost 1 dollar in the total game though... played 2 tables. Thank you~

I'm fine with the play in the first hand although that was a massive raise on the flop.

The play in the second hand is really bad though. Calling a raise with A8 unsuited preflop is fine I guess but you should have gotten away from the hand when Villain raised. The only thing you can beat there is a bluff and the fact that he raised preflop indicates a hand of strength. Unless you had a read on him that he was spewing chips, you should have folded and picked a better spot.

Always try to put opponents on a range of hands what figure out what percentage of their hands you can beat. I would put A-10 at the bottom of their hand range and that still has you beat.

I agree with previous poster. The first hand with your set of 5s was alright. Pretty obvious he was on a flush draw what with the flop being quite ragged. I dont think the massive raise on the flop was bad~ on drawing hands that can beat you, you want to make their draw expensive. Sure you might not win a lot, but it prevents people from drawing out on you. Just bad luck the turn gave him an open ender as well.

The second hand i also think was very poor play. A-X offsuit is generally not a good hand to call raises with. Thats largely because it is very hard to tell where you are at after the flop. And thats the kind of hands that will either win you small pots, or make you lose big pots.

For example, if your Ace hits, youd win a small pot by betting and getting everyone to fold. But if someone else holds an Ace as well, you are likely to be behind, and it can be quite difficult to muck your Aces. If an 8 comes on the flop, chances are you might also just make middle pair and someone might have top pair. The only real time when you can be fairly sure you're ahead is when flop comes 8-8-X and you get trip 8s with Ace kicker. On top of that A-x offsuit can rarely make flushes and straights, and even when they do, it will be four to a straight/flush on the board~ most people wont call a large bet in that type of scary looking boards.

And anyway, most of the time, if you play with A-X, you probably wont hit the flop.

My 2 cents
