Am I just unlucky?

Postby henderson » Tue Sep 21, 2010 1:51 pm

Greetings all, Rules Poker

I seem to be going though a rough patch at Will Hill. I'm finding I often get it in with the best hand, and be often a 80+% favourite before the River only to continually loose. Last night I had pocket Kings, there was a raise before it got to me with three other players, I re-raised 4X's the original hoping to take down the pot then only to be called by two players - flop contains the mandatory Ace and two hearts. I go all in for my last 8 quid, one player folds, the other calls me with 6 8 of hearts - turn is a blank, River brings, you guessed it, Q of Hearts! This gent had called with nothing but the flush draw, and hit it - I'm so over these beats - why do these people never fold....and worse, why do they hit so much! Video Poker

Why do people like to gamble online? This is a question that non-playing part of the population. Life has changed, and changed gaming. But the fact remains: if a man can play, he will. But why? Organization anonymous gamblers gathered information according to which dependence - a casino cash
pathological disease, but at the same time receiving pleasure and enjoyment from the game. Some players have a subconscious motivation, but others simply enjoy the process. Ask 10 different players, why they like to play in the casino, and you'll get 10 different answers. But we still tried and found three main motive.
Gambler driven by money
POKER

Of course, the reason number one - a chance to win a certain amount. Why are millions of people constantly buying lottery tickets, knowing that they have a greater chance that they struck by lightning than they win. All are hoping to break the jackpot, and even a small amount is sufficient that the person continued to play in the casino. At the psychological level, the phenomenon of hope / expectation is best explained psychologist BF Skinner.
Slots Cash

Gambling casinos, according to Skinner, are classified as positive incentives. This means that even a single win (and with a lot of losses) - this is a positive impetus for the person to continue to play. If you have ever played on the machine, you probably know what I mean. Even if you lost $ 100, you still feel a pleasant sensation, if you win $ 30.
For gamblers game - a contest
Casino Games

Excitement in the competition is particularly strong in the gambling casinos, which require certain skills. This, for example, poker. As a result, the player is released into the blood adrenaline. When someone wins, it will not just get money, and defeated his opponent.
Gamblers attracted by the thrill of the unknown

Everyone loves a good surprise. This is another aspect of the attractiveness of gambling. For players who come to the casino, knowing that they will lose, the winnings are even more enjoyable. Add to that an atmosphere of noise, and you get a great recipe for a Saturday night.

Why do these ppl never fold? Cos u didnt give them a chance to, by going AI on the flop.
To explain further, it helps if u can post the hand history, showing the stack sizes.

May i ask a stupit question...let say we know that a pair vs 2 high cards the odd is 55% vs 45%

let me take a hand for example, single table Sng lowest limit: with 15bb I raise AKo, a huge steak opponent with 60bb call. flop come an Ace, no draw on the board. i bet slightly less then half the pot(base on some read), he call. turn card rack, i go all in pot size bet(base on some read), he call and turn over 66. river a 6 giving him a set.

chances of hitting a 6 on the river is only 5%. should we say that he was luck to catch that 5% or he just won a 55% vs 45% hand?

same goes for higher pair vs lower pair, pair vs 1 high 1 low blah blah blah...

The percentages doesn't matter. All that matters is whether you played that hand correctly or not. A c-bet of slightly less than half the pot on a SnG is not a good bet IMO. It needs to be at least 2/3 of the pot, so that those who want to peel with a pocket pair will think twice.

On the turn, you shoved. You effectively turned your hand into a bluff. Weaker hands will fold, and those who slow-played their set or hit two pair on the turn just got a gift handed to them. So it's a play where the weaker hands will fold and the better hands will call.

Also, the fact that he called your turn shove with pocket sixes is not really important anymore. The more important thing is why would you play the hand that way. You said you bet less than half the pot size base on your read, what read was that? Based on your read, you wanted him to call, fold, or raise you? You shoved based on some read, what read was that? Based on your read, do you expect him to fold or call your shove?

because he see small bet as weakness and big bet as bulff. that the read i have from him. weakness on the flop and bluff on the turn can make him call with weaker hand and i can double up.
