Best place for a beginner , macau/singapore?

Postby henke » Wed Oct 06, 2010 12:08 pm

Hi

I'm a European living in Thailand and have just started playing poker online, I need some experience live for texas holdem and planning to visit Macau in the near future.
Any recommendations for places that are nice to newbies like myself , maybe Singapore is a better choice?
Thanks.

Macau has casinos with Texas Holdem running 24/7. Singapore doesn't have any casinos that sports Texas Holdem.

Singapore however do have a reasonably active home-game going on (and being a small country you can travel everywhere in less then an hour).
You can check out the home game meetup section under this forum for more info. Singapore does have the advantage (to foreigners) that everyone speaks English here so getting around games isn't that hard and players tend to be more friendly then being in a casino.

Since your in the middle, go up or down won't be much of a issue.

Thanks for the info , I didnt know it was illegal to play poker at casinos in Singapore.
I will check out the home games next time i'm in Singapore.

So Macau and Hong Kong is my only option then. I have a Pokerstars account so will try my luck at the Grand Lisboa.
Anyone know the minimum buy-in for NL cash tables there ?

@Henke, it's not illegal to play poker at the casinos in Singapore, it's just that the poker tables have not been started.

Home games are not casino operations or illegal gambling dens. Home games are defined as "games hosted not-for-profit" but for entertainment usually between closed door friends.
The law varies between countries on home games but in Singapore it's perfectly legal.

@Dan This site does not promote raked games (these are defined as gambling dens). so please report them and we'll delete them off.

iirc , it 50 - 200 BI for each limits except their highest limits which has no upper cap.

the stakes i saw was 10/20 HKD , 10/25 HKD , (these 2 bulk of the tables) 20/40 ,( can't remb if its 25/50 or this) 50/100

most home games over here , ranges from 0.2/0.4 all the way to 2/5 with 1/2 games being the most popular

10HKD /20HKD , with exchange rate at 1 Singapore dollar = 5.92271536 Hong Kong dollars , will be around 1.5SGD/3SGD

In general , their games are larger then ours.

Hi --

Did you enjoy your trip to Macau for poker? Where did you find were the best places to play, and what were the kinds of stakes?

I'm heading out myself this weekend, so any tips you have would be highly appreciated!
