pot size at the flop = 2310, it was 880 to call. i would shove if i saw a pair on the flop, with pot odds laying you 3:1, and panta aek limping in, i would suspect him to have suited connectors (like in your case 9sJs), but at the river you'd probably do better if you had folded.

it's like folding deuces on the flop and seeing the other two on the turn and river and saying "should i have folded"..

IMO,if I were in ur position..I would hv bet something..mayb ard one third to half of the pot to see where I stand on my pocket pair..instead of a check..then I would have not much info on a shove by those in position..also a bet on this flop might deter any from trying to bluff off with two overcards..that what I feel..my 2 cents worth..=)

You should have made the right discission preflop. I think, with your nice stack, a fold was the best option here. 99 in a multiwaypot with shortys is horrible!

Fold/shove preflop, calling is the worst option. IMO fold > shove > call

Few qns for u:
1) would u fold if u have pocket jacks, and not nines? Hands ahead of nines, are ahead of jacks too and nines has more outs to a Backdoor straight.

2) if u are villain, and have pocket 8,  would u shove? How about if hit trips 10? Pre-flop range: how likely he would reraise with JJ, QQ, KK and AA? Try putting him on a range of hands that he's calling with. Most likely u are ahead plus tempting 3 to 1 odds. And Very likely he's on a draw, semi bluff shove on the flop after your check.

Sorry I don't explain my thot process in details. U can. U can draw your own conclusions.

depends on your overall strategy

if your early strategy's priority is chip conservation , you can toss that away ( waiting for big hands in a tournament requires patience)
if your early strategy's priority is chip accumulation , then go ahead and ship it ( some like to be early chip leader to steal lots of pots )

actually by checking on the flop you showed some weakness. agree with rooney that a bet should have been in place but with that pot size raising might also induce a shove. not to mention 1/3 of the bet = rest of their stack

lovely, very insightful responses. i appreciate. it was the fact that i had thought my 9-9s were ahead when the flop came that kept me pondering, though it looks like i should be easily crushed. perhaps i played myself into this preflop and it should have been a no brainer with this flop. sorry if the qn was dumb, i believe there're no dumb qns. :) back to the tables. thanks all! and anyone else who might wana chip in their views!

Problem there was that after the reraise to 770, you should know that if villain calls he would be left with 800+ chips. In that scenario is either you fold or all-in preflop. Calling is bad as you really wouldnt know where you stand if you miss completely on the flop, plus you are out of position.
