Going to Macau for the first time :D...

Postby AceSweaty » Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:12 am

Hey guys, hope this is the right place for this.

I've qualified for the Red Dragon Macau Event in February. Going with a mate. Hopefully see some of you at the event. Figured this would be a good place to ask a few questions if someone's feeling generous....

1) What's cheap in Hong Kong compared to the UK? I've heard Ipads are relatively cheap? What else would you take the opportunity to pickup if you were from the UK (no hooker jokes pls)?

2) Anyone know what injections are needed (if any)?

3) What's the Grand Lisboa like? Anyone stayed their with pokerstars before? Pool and gym good? What's the food like? Pricy?

4) Both my mate and me LOVE our Chinese food. How does HK and Macau Chinese food compare in taste? And in Price? Any must go restaurants?

5) How long does it take to get from the Airport to the Casino? Best mode of transport? How much is the Taxi / Bus?

6) If you had just 10 hours in Hong Kong as a tourist where would you go?

7) How big a problem is organised crime in Macau and HK? What precautions do you take?

1.) Yes tech stuff and camera stuff

2.) A google search will suffice but usually no problems unless (touchwood) new forms of Sars surfaces then no injection will really save you.

3.) Yes it can be pricey but you will love it. Nice small gym but good equipment. Food usually costs 150hkd a meal but they have great restaurants with michelin stars and recommendations. Budget 2k per head but you will not regret. Spending the pound helps too. =)

4.) They are pretty much the same. Just stick to Macau. The regular chinese restaurants in the casinos cover a wide range of the cuisine in southern china, hk and macau. Something you should try is "dim sum" and stick to the "8" in Grand Lisboa at least you can speak to the manager there in English to recommend dishes to you. If you have another local with you, ask them to bring you to "Jin Yue Xuan" (near Rio hotel macau) its my personal favourite in the whole of southern china but its not where the casinos congregate.

5.) Are you flying in straight to macau? Its 15minutes and taxi is roughly less than 60hkd. Casinos have free bus services in the day till about 10pm (i might be wrong about the times). If you are flying into Hong Kong google "Airport Ferry Hong Kong Macau" and you can save the hassle of going past immigration, getting a cab, taking a ferry to macau.

6.) As recommended in my other post I think just take the bus tour.

7.) It used to be big in the past, its super safe now but just with any big city just be careful in crowded places watch your wallets and stuff but to be honest I feel safer in Macau, Hongkong then in Madrid, London or Paris. The organised crime here are now into legit casino businesses so they don't give a shit about the wallets anymore.
