FTP Micro tournament 2+0.20

Postby Quicky » Wed Jan 12, 2011 7:58 pm

i am not quite sure how to post the thingy like all usually does
but i hope i am able to explain it clearly here

about 145 players in the tourney we are down to 35 players left
and my chips is ranked 9/35, top 15 cash out
9handed tournament
blinds were at 200/400
All folded,
Quicky dealt with Kd Qd (10.5k+ chips)
VillianA(SB) 200 (7k+ chips)
VillianB(BB) 400 (3.4k chips)

i usually do a 3X blind raise at this position with my hands, but i did a min raise to 800
VillianA Called
VillianB Folded

FLOP: 4D 3D 3C

VillianA checked,
i bet half the pot size 1500,
(figuring i should have the best hand with the draws and all i could semi bluff him off the pot, mind me, im a fish so im still learning)
VillianA Called
turn an Ace of spade
he checked,
i bet half the pot side again about 3000+
he shoves all in
i stunted there for a minute, i commited about 70% of my stack into the pot already...left with 3k+
in the end i folded

so where did i do wrong i tried to analyize my play
pre flop? should i have raised more to say x3x4 BB or shove to pick up blinds?
on the flop, should i have semi bluff the flop? check the flop. i firgured with my draws i can build the pot up with half a pot bet
on the turn it was indeed the card i did not want to see A of spade which would cancel out my K&Q draw. then i would only rely on a flush to pick it up
either that he really flop the nuts with pocket 4's or something

please help me, pokerkaki guru's
in the end i got K.O at 33position :(

poker books will suggest to check the turn. Could he be pushing with pocket pair? what is the standard of MTT Mirco tour comparing to single table SNG? you must be very good to last so long in the toury

just my opinion, I am also a fish so maybe I am wrong.
PREFLOP: Since you are at the button, you should have raise abt 3 times the blind. 2 usage, 1 to either steal the blinds or 2 to put some money in the pot if u are called.
FLOP: To put him off and to get some info on his hand, do a continuation 60-70% pot size bet. If he calls, then you know ok, he has something. If he folds, u win the pot.
Turn: since he already checked to you and you have a flush DRAW, should check the bet. Dun forget you are in a better position then him. At the river if you do fail your flush draw, you could still fold if he bet coz any pocket pair or even an A will beat you. If you make your flush and he bets, good for you.
Think you were trying to prob scare him off at the turn when the A comes, if you wanan bet, make it bigger to be convincing. Maybe when you bet half the pot, that's wat gave him the signal you have a weak hand or flush draw and he tried to scare you by all in.

Any comments guys?

keldraco: nahh, if i am good, i wouldnt have done the mistake above.
anyways
thanks, i guess i should have done that..check the turn

i guess my mistakes are:
1) to small of a raise pre flop
2) should have check the turn

after giving it a thought up to a day now,
my gut tells me he had an ace, A7 A8 or something..
mehhh forget it, time for more tourneys
ive cashed out 6th place before in a 6handed tournament. since then nv really cash out no more
i am a fish and bleeding, thats bad

Personally I think you give up your flush draw too early, the first hand is very obvious that you should have raise 3x BB, and a call from the flop indicates your opp might have hit his hand or just the same waiting a draw, check by the turn from him indicates he has nothing, or he has planned ahead to check raise you anyway haha... however you should check there. the SNG game you should call by the odds, but personally I would got for a check and see how much that guy would bet, or bet around 200 and take control of the odds, a 120 bet for a 360 pot doesnt seem convincing enough to let your opponent fold his/her mediocre hand.
