mid pair vs Ax or KQ/KJ range

Postby lama » Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:09 pm

Hi fellow Poker players,

I have over the last 2-3 days lost 8 all ins with a mid pair (77 to tt) vs Ax or even KQ-KJ (example below), a few times (pretty much after i lost two mid pairs all in within 20 mins) I then tried to go all in with AQ or AK against similar pairs (66 to tt) everytime the pair held up, i know people say that is what happens, it just seems to happen a bit too often to me.

Any advise on how to play the below differently, especially view both me and the villain are relatively short stacked.

Table 6-max Seat #4 is the button
Seat 1: Hero ($50.40 in chips)
Seat 2: Villain ($43.50 in chips)
Seat 4: Button ($124.55 in chips)
Seat 5: Big Blind ($121.65 in chips)
Seat 6: Small Blind ($168.65 in chips)

Seat 6: posts small blind $1
Seat 5: posts big blind $2

*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to Hero[9d 9c]
Hero: raises $4 to $6
Villain: raises $37.50 to $43.50 and is all-in
Button: folds
Small blind: folds
Big blind: folds
Hero: calls $37.50
*** FLOP *** [As 5c 6s]
*** TURN *** [As 5c 6s] [7s]
*** RIVER *** [As 5c 6s 7s] [5d]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Hero: shows [9d 9c] (two pair, Nines and Fives)
Villain: shows [Ks Qs] (a flush, Ace high)
Villain collected $88 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***Total pot $90 | Rake $2 Board [As 5c 6s 7s 5d]
Seat 1: Hero showed [9d 9c] and lost with two pair, Nines and Fives
Seat 2: Villain showed [Ks Qs] and won ($88) with a flush, Ace high
Seat 4: button folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: small blind folded before Flop
Seat 6: big blind folded before Flop

And what information do you have on your villian ?

here is how your hand fares against a range of hands :

5 % - 35% vs 65%

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 35.878% 34.87% 01.01% 35224622 1021742.00 { 9h9s }
Hand 1: 64.122% 63.11% 01.01% 63757830 1021742.00 { 99+, AJs+, KQs, AKo

10 % 47% vs 53%
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 47.014% 46.41% 00.61% 97736068 1281402.00 { 9h9s }
Hand 1: 52.986% 52.38% 00.61% 110314520 1281402.00 { 88+, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, AJo+, KQo }

15 % 51% vs 49%
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 51.294% 50.82% 00.47% 166208512 1549415.00 { 9h9s }
Hand 1: 48.706% 48.23% 00.47% 157742722 1549415.00 { 77+, A7s+, K9s+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KTo+, QJo }

20 % 54% vs 45%
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 54.046% 53.59% 00.45% 228496666 1937802.00 { 9h9s }
Hand 1: 45.954% 45.50% 00.45% 193991426 1937802.00 { 66+, A4s+, K8s+, Q9s+, J9s+, T9s, A9o+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo }

you bet $6 into a $3 pot , he ship it

so it costs $37.50 to win $43.50 + $9 = $52.50

the dead money in the pot + he doesn't have much behind + your last to act so you will close the action means your priced to call. ( $37.50 to win $37.5 + 52.5 = $90 around 1 is to 2.5 .)

only if his range is like 5 % then you can't call , otherwise , its an ok decision IMO

why not post your hand history and your thoughts and everyone can discuss all the hands you played?

Thanks for the quick reply, what you mean with hand history? Should have the full hand history for my 99 already, sorry new to the forum so not sure and thus might be a stupid question from my side.

My view on the villain is that he is very aggresive if he has an A or K, he had been all in a few hands earlier with A4 off suit, I actually thought he had something like A7 to AT off suit or maybe KQ - KJ off suit, so seems i would have been slight favorit on this one.

what you posted = hand history , post the hands that you all in and won/ lost here lor. No question is too stupid , only some of the answers are.

if its any K any A , you are way ahead ,63% vs 37 % , the only mistake you might make is not calling it any faster.

you are a 3:2 favourite vs this range.

Hand 0: 37.774% 37.53% 00.24% 1449925728 9281730.00 { JJ+, A2s+, K2s+, A2o+, K2o+ }
Hand 1: 62.226% 61.99% 00.24% 2394468636 9281730.00 { 99 }

my recommendation is to read this : http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/69/mi ... ds-430489/ if you are playing for the $$ , if you are playing for fun , then its not worth the effort.
