Online Poker Forum - How do you choose which hands to review

Postby brain cameron » Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:44 pm

Do you only review recently played hands or hands played in the past? Personally, I find myself having a hard time escaping from results-oriented thinking when I am reviewing hands that I played recently enough to remember how they played out. Any advice on this?

Also, what filters are you applying in your HEM or PT3 when choosing what hands to review? Is it a pot size? Or something like "seen turn = true"? Or casinobellini.com/ca/

Bottom line, which hands are most useful to be reviewed?

hi there,

It depends what type of games you are playing. SitnGo , cash MTT , STT etc.
For Mtts , i would analyze hands that i ended up losing and winning with big pots.Whether i got lucky to win the big one or i played it optimally. For STT,its really a matter of ICM,bubble play.

Hope that helps abit

Review hands that you are not sure 100 % what your optimal decisions should be

Hands that you lose the most $$ , hands that you lost most often.

Later on you look vs type of villan etc

1)well, first of all you must have poker tracker.
2)next accumalate a decent hand sample.. say over 50k or 100k hands.
3)Then for example if you are a cash game player, check the table sorted by hand types AA down to 22, AK down to 23
4)Check to see if you are profitable playing the follow hands, all pairs 22-AA, all suited connects 45s to AKs, All Ax off suits and higher tier hands like K7+ Q8+ J9+.
5) for those that are in red, go back to the hand histories and find your weakness~!
6) keep tuning and playing... by 1 million hand samples of playing and correcting I'm pretty sure u will be a very good poker player ^_^

for tournament players its harder to evaluate... you should evaluate your hands by stages.
example if you have a low ITM, often busting out near the money then you should spend more time review hands that had put your stack in line that ended up -EV during the bubble.
if you have high ITM but low ROI, you should review more towards your late game plays, find spots that you could have stolen more binds or won more pots to accumlate and take the tournament down.
