Cash grinding: how long did you take to make moolah?

Postby g_oxidizer » Tue Jun 14, 2011 2:54 pm

Wondering how long (i.e. Number of hands) of grinding did you take to learn and survive the sharks before hitting consistent positive BB/100?
Assume NL .10/.25, using HUD and actually reviewing sessions.
(I'm being eaten alive for the past 20.000 hands...)

i think its less a function of the hands you've played and more a function of having sound fundamentals (when and how much to bet) and thought processes (why bet why check). suggest getting a good coach who can help you analyze your fundamentals, leaks and whatnot. you can also post your hand histories here if you like. and lots of kakis will help take a look at them

I do agree that reading books is Impt to stay ahead of the competitions.
While reviewing played sessions, a few common mistakes I can see
-not laying down when beat, check-raising seems to be a clear signal by villain of having a strong hand.
-overplaying weak hands out of position-> e.g suited one-gappers
-playing a bit too loose at VpIp >30

I will post hands to discuss just like on 2+2 soon :)

u need to think about edge vs sample size as well

for example if i were crushing the NL2 games completely, I'll probably have a huge winrate even if i ran bad within a small sample. However if I'm playing my usual limits of midstakes, my edge over the rest is pretty small in comparison and I could easily experience the bad end of variance and lose a ton of money.

i think 100k is a decent sample size but if u want to analyze your leaks from a huge database you probably need about 300k. At micro stakes if u breakeven after 50k hands then you are probably leaking a lot all over the place because the games are basically pretty easy to beat
