When 2 big stacks meet

PokerStars Game #63373367422: Tournament #404475920, $13.77+$1.23 USD Hold'em No Limit - Level XVII (2000/4000) - 2011/06/15 7:27:43 ET
Table '404475920 3' 9-max Seat #5 is the button

Been running hot, took this tournament down in the end.. almost lost my stack in this hand

Seat 1: lokuttara (61799 in chips) 2nd chip leader ( loose and aggressive, just like me)
Seat 2: mileito21 (27982 in chips)
Seat 4: masterpohc (25922 in chips)
Seat 5: pipi486 (132967 in chips) chip leader me
Seat 6: Dok2920 (21330 in chips)
lokuttara: posts the ante 400
mileito21: posts the ante 400
masterpohc: posts the ante 400
pipi486: posts the ante 400
Dok2920: posts the ante 400
Dok2920: posts small blind 2000
lokuttara: posts big blind 4000
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to pipi486 [9d Tc] mid range hand, good for stealing blinds at this stage
mileito21: folds
masterpohc: folds
pipi486: raises 4000 to 8000 raise 2x BB, have beenrasing 2x or 2.5x BB at this stage.. those pussies just fold most of the times without defending

Dok2920: folds
lokuttara: calls 4000 2nd chip leader defends because of the good odds ( he fold before previously.. so his current hand range should be some thing quite mid range.. like 45 to TJ... or A/x or small pair)
*** FLOP *** [Th 7d 3s]
lokuttara: bets 4000 feeling weird when he leads out with such a small bet, smells more like a blocking bet... I have a pair here and the board looks dry... current hand range for opponent is more like he hit a small pair or has a draw. A raise here for 1/2 pot size could be great to see where I stand.. but I don't want to get in a raising war with him.. we benefit more keep the pot small.
pipi486: calls 4000 ( call to keep the pot small and show down.. bad cards to turn are A,Q,K,J)
*** TURN *** [Th 7d 3s] [Jc] dropped a bad card.. i turn defensive
lokuttara: bets 4000
pipi486: calls 4000 the odds are too good and i want to keep the pot small, small hand small pot
*** RIVER *** [Th 7d 3s Jc] [Kc] another very bad card
lokuttara: bets 45399 and is all-in ahhh this is so weird.... and got be thinking, is he bluffing or does he has the nuts?
pipi486: folds
Uncalled bet (45399) returned to lokuttara
lokuttara collected 36000 from pot
lokuttara: shows [8d 9c] (a straight, Seven to Jack) if i raised the flop, I would had lost a big pot.. always remember, small hand small pot, big hand big pot ^^
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 36000 | Rake 0
Board [Th 7d 3s Jc Kc]
Seat 1: lokuttara (big blind) collected (36000)
Seat 2: mileito21 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: masterpohc folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: pipi486 (button) folded on the River
Seat 6: Dok2920 (small blind) folded before Flop

I don't mind putting in a small raise on the flop, for value against mid pair type hands and straight draws. You have the 7 blocker against potential straight draw outs, and being in position allows you to control the pot on later streets.

Raising shouldn't be for information, it's either for value or as a bluff.

Considering the effective stack size, though 2nd in chips, villian started the hand with 15BBs. a raise on the flop with a call would inflate the pot to about 10BB.
No matter how you control the pot in position on the later streets, you are forced to play in an inflated pot (with half of your stack) as quite likely all the chips will get in. (of course felix can choose to fold later...??)
Pot control starts here, not later streets, why waste the position.

in hindsight, villian played badly... obvious and no need to say more.

raise flop also can, against this opponent he quite aggressive, if I raised I guess he would probably fold a smaller pair or if he has nothing.
But he could re-raise all in on the flop with a strong pair, a set or straightdraw (semi-bluff). If he does so, it will be a tough call but highly +EV to go all-in against the straight draw.

on the Turn if a low card and harmless one drops, a aggressive turn raise can also seal the pot.

I feel that if this guy has a strong pair, he will most probably check raise you or check/call rather than donk out 1bb on a rainbow flop. From my experience, nost often people do it to set their own price to draw, or to see where they are at with their mid pair type hand.

Starting with 15bb effective stacks, personally I don't mind getting it in with top pair, especially when you have such a chip lead. Besides, you won't mind him folding his 2 overcards there facing a raise, which has around 25% equity against you.

actually speaking that way, the best way he should he played was to CR me all-in on the flop, i would has fold easily. The only hand I can call him with is an over pair or a set that kinda strength
