I'm usually in perth
but Aussie cost of living is very high
i suggest you get used to fast food
or bring maggi mee
on the other hand if you run good
you can eat at the casino everyday (:

I studied in Melbourne for 5 years.

You can get cheap accommodation at backpacker hostels. Search around...some are really cheap and good. You get friendly roommates too, generally fun loving teens who make great drinking buddies.

Base@st kilda was a nice and clean place if I remember correctly. It's only 20 mins to flinders station by tram. From there, u can switch a tram, or just take a 10 min riverside stroll to crown.

Staying in the suburbs like st kilda is generally a better idea. Not far from the city by tram, and the accomodations are less crowded.
