Welcome to the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The action starts September 4, with 62 events and $30,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools. It’s the series where fortunes are made and new stars of poker are born, and anyone can play. If you think you’re ready to become a world champion, qualify exclusively with PokerStars satellites now.

PokerStars has just announced the launch of the PokerStars Radio WCOOP show. It is a series of live radio broadcasts running daily in four different languages from September 7-27. The "Inside WCOOP TV" will be broadcasting every Tue during the series (Sept 13, 20, & 27).

I've attached some more "did-you-know" knowledge that you can share with your group on each day leading up to the WCOOP launch!
Please help spread the word about WCOOP and let everyone know that the biggest online tournament series of the year is about to begin!

WCOOP 3 Days to Go

• WCOOP ‘03 paid out a total of $2,700,000 over 11 events. This year it will have 62 events with $30,000,000 guaranteed in prize money.
• The 3rd most successful WCOOP player ever is ‘liberace’. He placed second in the Main Event 2008 as well as several other big finishes to give him over $1,430,000.
• Last year’s Event 3 ($215 No Limit Hold’em) was won by ‘joao bauer’ of Brazil. He has cashed 3 times altogether in the WCOOP winning nearly $330,000.
• ‘ElmerFudd’ of the United States was the first person ever finish 3rd in a WCOOP Main Event. He took home over $27,000.
• The 3rd most successful country in terms of number of WCOOP cashes is Germany with 3,870 in-the-money finishes.
• Ryan ‘g0lfa’ D’Angelo is out on his own as the most prolific WCOOP bracelet winner. He’s won 3 times and cashed over $324,000. Impressively, every time he has final tabled the tournament, he went on to win it.
• There are 3 countries that have each one 3 WCOOP bracelets. Finland is a long time success story, with their first win coming in 2006. The other two are among the new breed of poker powerhouses – Brazil (one win in 2009, two in 2010) and Russia (all 3 wins in 2010). Look out for more wins from them in 2011!
• Costa Rica and Poland are both former winners of the World Cup of Poker, and both have 3 WCOOP final table appearances.
• Bosnia, Macedonia and Uzbekistan each have 3 WCOOP cashes to their credit.
• Honduras, Liberia and the Falkland Islands have all been represented in WCOOP events on 3 occasions.
• Coming 3rd in WCOOP events appears to be habit forming, with many players having done so more than once. ‘Linden_Arden’ was the first to do so, managing it in back to back events in the first ever WCOOP.
• On average there are 3 events every day for the 3 weeks duration of WCOOP.
• Most WCOOP events will have 3 hours of late registration available, so you don’t have to be on time to get in on the action!
• This year event 3 is $215 No Limit Hold’em tourney taking place at 14:00 ET with a guarantee of $1.25M.

WCOOP 2 Days to Go

• WCOOP ’02 was the first ever held. The nine events generated $730K in total prize pools. The Main Event was won by Swedish player ‘Multimarine’, who defeated an otherwise all-American final table to take the $65K first prize.
• WCOOP ’02 was a heartbreaking series for ‘boon1’, who achieved back to back 2nd place finishes in events 6 & 7. It must have been too much to take, as he’s not been seen cashing in WCOOP since.
• Despite coming 2nd in the Main Event 2008, American player ‘liberace’ was the tournament’s big winner. A five-way deal was struck that awarded the biggest share to him. To this day he sits third on the all time money list with over $1.4M in winnings.
• Users with the number 2 in their names have won 22 WCOOP bracelets from 2002 to 2009.
• There are eight player with 2 bracelets to their credit. The most recent member of the elite group is ‘Xaston’ who picked up both his bracelets during the 2010 WCOOP.
• WCOOP 2008 saw the introduction of 2-day events. ‘NYC P.I.MP’ was the first ever winner under these conditions, securing $257K in event 20 of that year. The longer format is now used commonly where the tournament is expected to run long – there are 22 such tournaments this year.
• The 2X Chance tourney format was introduced to WCOOP 2 years ago. The format allows you to make a single rebuy if you lose your first stack. Try it for yourself in event 44.
• Last year, ‘AlexKP’, ‘Ifeedurfam’, ‘mustbetilt’ and ‘Trickey7’ all won a WCOOP bracelet having entered only 2 of the events.
• There are 192 players that have made 2 or more WCOOP final table appearances.
• Team PokerStars Pros Barry Greenstein and Chris Moneymaker both have 22 lifetime WCOOP cashes. Joining them on that figure is Team Online’s Shane ‘shaniac’ Schleger, who has relocated this year just in time to improve on that total.
• Top of the lifetime cashes list for Team PokerStars Pro is Humberto Brenes, who has made the money 27 times. His best finish was a 2nd place in a 2006 PLO event.
• The biggest ever WCOOP cash from a Team PokerStars Pro is $700K from Vanessa Rousso’s 2nd place finish in the 2007 Main Event.
• Spain, France and Greece all have 2 WCOOP bracelets to their credit.
• Lebanon, Malta, Singapore and Portugal have all been represented at 2 WCOOP final tables.
• St Lucia, Sudan, San Marino and Syria have all played in 2 WCOOP events.
• Event 56 in last year’s series was the 222nd WCOOP tournament.
• This year, Event 2 is the always star-studded $10,300 No Limit Hold’em High Roller tournament. ‘CrabMaki’ from the UK is the defending champion, having beaten Team PokerStars Pro Ville Wahlbeck into 2nd place.

WCOOP 1 Day to Go

• WCOOP ’11 is the most important online poker series of the year. There are 62 events and more than $30M guaranteed.
• In terms of winnings, the #1 WCOOP player of all time is Tyson ‘POTTERPOKER’ Marks. He won last year’s Main Event and cashed in three others during 2010, making well over $2,285,000.
• Twelve countries cashed for more than $1M in prize money during last year’s WCOOP.
• The Main Event in this year’s series will award a guaranteed $1M to 1st place. You can qualify for the tournament for as little as $11.
