Poker Basics by a noob (me)

I just started learning poker so i guess it would be to find out what i can gather about the game from the really basics.

Basic Stuff
=======================================================

Hand Rankings (From strongest to weakest)

Royal Flush
[As] [Ks] [Qs] [Js] [Ts] all of the same suit.

Chance : Unbelieveably rare, some say it's a myth...

Straight Flush

Any five card sequence in the same suit.
Chance : Extremely Rare

Four of a Kind
[Qs] [Qh] [Qc] [Qd] [2d] or [6s] [6h] [6c] [6d] [2d]
All four cards of the same index (Ex: Q, Q, Q, Q). A great hand when you can get it.
Chance : Rare

Full House
[Js] [Js] [Js] [7s] [7s]
Three of a kind combined with a pair.
Chance : Common, even more common then three of a kind.

Flush
[8h] [5h] [Jh] [Kh] [2h]
This hand is any five cards of the same suit, but not in sequence.
Chance : Common

Straight
[3s] [4h] [5c] [6d] [7s]
Five cards in sequence, but not of the same suit.
Chance : Common, weakest of the 5-hand cards.

Three of a Kind
[6s] [6h] [6c]
Three cards of the same rank.
Chance : Fairly Uncommon (usually ends up as a full house).

Two pair
[4s] [4h] [6s] [6h]
Two separate pairs (Ex: J, J, 3, 3).
Chance : Common, easily defeated by 3 of a kind so careful when playing suchs.

Pair
[Ah] [Ac]
Two cards of the same rank. (K, K).
Chance : Very Common

Highest Card
[Ah]
When you have nothing else, you can play the highest card in your hand.
Chance : Highest card in your hand. Usually quite useless.

The Kicker : Quoted from http://www.launchpoker.com/school/theor ... nty-four-/

Your holding a pair of Kings. Under the current circumstances this is probably a good thing. If somebody else was holding a pair of Aces, they would probably sense the mood of the table and try a raise. You only have one King in your hand though, the other is on the table. There is the very real possibility that someone else is holding one of the two remaining kings. If this is the case, you will want to look to your other card to see where you stand. Your primary card is the King, your other card, is the “Kicker”.

The Kicker is important in Hold’em because is one card in a player's hand matched with a card on the board, while the player's second card, the Kicker, acts as a tie breaker. In the example above we have described a situation where your holding a King with a King on the board. If your Kicker is a Q and another player is holding an K-10, you win the pot because your Q beats their 10. If the board, however, were A-K-5-9-5, the players would tie. This is because they can play the Ace on the board as their Kicker. This would result in a split pot.

OMG... kenna bluff!...

A hand with no pairs and an Ace high card. This hand beats all other hands with no high cards, and is a possible winner in a heads-up or very short game.
