Macau Poker Cup Championship 2011 Ready to Launch Main Event

Postby DM101 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 1:28 am

Lazar and Machi win Event 2 and 3

MACAU, CHINA, October 11, 2011 – PokerStars Macau at Casino Grand Lisboa is hosting the Macau Poker Cup Championship 2011 and after a three prelimenary tournaments all eyes are now on the Main Event which takes place from October 12-16 and comes with an impressive HKD $4,500,000 guarantee.

Last year's Main Event was won by Germany's Julian Hasse who outlasted the 254-player field on his way to winning the HKD $1,064,000 first prize. It's expected that both the field size and prize money will well exceed those figures this week.

"The opening events have been solid," said Danny McDonagh, Director of Live Operations in Asia-Pacific, "but the real fun now begins. This is by far the most anticipated MPCC we've ever had and I can confidently predict another record breaking tournament this week."

Image

vent 2: $5,000 KO Bounty was won by Australian Ioan Lazar who beat the 124-player field and collected HKD $109,740 plus another HKD $4,000 in bounties for his 2-day effort.

13 players heading into the Day 2 final were all in the money for a piece of the HKD $546,840 prize pool. PokerStars player Terry Fan had the chip lead entering the day and that continued to a final table that included top Asia Player of the Year ranked Hung-sheng "Shaq" Lin but they would be eliminated in 4th and 9th place respectively.

American Aaron Jacobs would fall in 3rd place to set up a heads up match between Laraz and China's Wenjie Zhang. After 3 unsuccessful all-in attempts to finish off Zhang, the Aussie finally found a hand that would hold. Laraz pushed his big stack with Ks5s and was called by Zhang's Td9s.

The board ran Kh-Th-8c-7s-Ac and the pair of kings sealed the victory for the 29-year old technician.

"I won my main event entry via satellite in Australia and got me a chance to visit Macau for the first time." said Lazar. "It's great to win an event before I start off my main event tomorrow."

Machi's final hand was against well known local Roy Wan from Hong Kong. Machi moved all-in with Kh9d and was called by Wan's As 7d.

The board was 8c-6h-9s-Jh-8d and the paired nines gave Japan its first trophy in the early MPCC schedule. "This is my best result from all the events I've played in PokerStars Macau." said the 36-year old restaurant owner. "I will be playing tomorrow's main event. Hope my luck stays on!"

Re: MPCC October(October 7-16) Updates

That was brutal ... chin up Bryan!

After a preflop raise to 900 from a middle position player and a call from the button, Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang joins them with Pocket Sevens in the big blind.

A flop of [7s] [8d] [6h] trips up Huang and he bets out 1750, not willing to give his opponents a free card on such a dicey-straight board. Both make the call, however, and Haung’s fears are realised when the [Th] turn lands. The action is checked to the button player who bets 4500, yet both Huang and the middle position player aren’t going anywhere.

When the [Tc] falls on the river Huang moves all in for 12,000, having filled up and now not afraid of a straight. He gets an insta-call from one opponent before the button player folds and Huang turns over his full house. However, it’s crushed by the quads of his opponent holding [Td] [Ts] , sending last year’s Asia Player of Year to the rail and ending his MPCC campaign.

Event 5: $2,500 KO Bounty had 130 players, building a HKD $221,650 prize pool with another HKD $65,000 in bounties up for grabs.

China's Kate Zhang knocked out 13 players on her way to the winners circle and was awarded the HKD $55,650 first place prize as well as another HKD $7,000 for her bounties.

The final table began with no other than Taiwanese Aaron Lin who's 9th final table appearance this year set a new single-season record on the Asian poker circuit. Aaron broke a 3-way tie between brother Shaq and China's Alexandre Chieng who are stuck at 8 final tables. Aaron Lin had to settle for the record and not another title as he busted in 6th place.

In the end, it was Australian Fancesco Ferraro who found himself heads up against Zhang. The final hand began with nearly identical chip stacks. Zhang moved all-in with K5 and was called by Ferraro who found a dominating KQ.

Unfortunately for the Aussie, the board ran 3-4-9-K-5 hitting Zhang's kicker for two pair. After a quick count it was confirmed that the Chinese business woman covered Ferraro sending her to the winner's circle.

It was a relief as much as excitement for Zhang who had a runner-up finish in Event 2 just one day earlier. "Finally I won after getting a 2nd place in the $5,000 KO Bounty. I need to leave Macau tomorrow and cannot join the rest of the events but I will come back for APPT in November!"

Event 5: $2,500 KO Bounty - Final Table Results

1. Kate Wenjie Zhang (China) -- $55,650
2. Francesco Ferraro (Australia) -- $37,700
3. Teemu Iiari Autio (Finland) -- $24,400
4. Ricardo Faura (Australia) -- $19,900
5. Adam Chi Tat Tsui (Hong Kong) -- $15,500
6. "Aaron" Hung-Chang Lin (Chinese Taipei) -- $13,300
7. Qifeng Liang (China) -- $11,100
8. Li Ta Hsu (Australia) -- $8,900
9. I- Mu Tu (Chinese Taipei) -- $6,600
10. Sebastien Clot (France) -- $5,500

Event 6: $4,000 NLH had 95 players creating a HKD $335,160 prize pool. After 5 levels, 60 players still remain in the 1-day event where the 10 final table players will make the money with a first prize of HKD $90,460.

Main Event - Day 2 takes place Friday at 12:10 PM (HKT). Day 1A chip leader -- the overall leader -- Sunny Jung (159,125) will join the Day 1B field as they merge for Day 2 along with Team PokerStars Pro Raymond Wu; Top ranked Shaq Lin and No. 3 Haifeng Xue; PokerStars sponsored players Neil Arce and Justin Chan; and, defending MPCC champion Julian Hasse.

China's Yue Qing Zhou leads Day 1B field of Main Event

MACAU, CHINA, October 13, 2011 – PokerStars Macau at Casino Grand Lisboa set new records for the Macau Poker Cup Championship 2011 as the Main Event drew 308 runners -- including 107 PokerStars players -- creating a prize pool of HKD $5,553,856. The previous MPCC record was 254 players and $4,626,864 which was set last year.

Thursday's Day 1B field had 187 players for the HKD $20,000 buy-in event and the top 38 players will be in the money with the winner receiving a grand prize of HKD $1,250,000.

"It's the top end of my expectations." said Danny McDonagh, Director of Live Operations for Asia-Pacific. "With APPT Macau Season 5 following the MPCC in just one month it's easy for players to wait until November. The 22% increase in entries in the Main Event and new records just show how much the region has embraced the sport of poker and PokerStars Macau."

Day 1B's chip leader was China's Yue Qing Zhou who led the surviving 92 players from Thursday with 117,800 chips. Malaysian Marcus Lau (109,200), Taiwanese Huai-hsun Ko (106,075, Korean Gabyong Kim (99,975), and Hong Kong's Choon Siang Tan round out the Top 5 from the second and final flight of the Main Event.

Other notables advancing to Day 2 include Team PokerStars Pro Vivian Im (62,200) -- ranked No. 10 for Asia Player of the Year, No. 4 Raiden Kan (74,225), No. 6 Ion Sang Song (39,425); and PokerStars sponsored players Nobuhiro Yabuuchi (19,550) and Kenny Shih (19,225)

Eliminated big names include Team PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang and Celina Lin; top ranked players Aaron Lin (No. 2) and Mark Benasa (No. 5); and, Team PokerStars: Online Dale "Daleroxxu" Philips
