Impact of Poker Room in Singapore

Postby kr176 » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:15 pm

As much as i am glad to have a legit brick and motar poker room to go to without flying 4 hours, i am concerned about the other effects on Singaporeans.

- Poker as Career
How many Phil Ivey wannbes will we see now that the casino is 30 mins drive at max.......for every sucessful (meaning earning > equivalent income at traditional career), i see 20 busto sad poker grinders.

Perhaps we need some Pros like Bryan to give his feedback and provide warnings to all aspiring pros.

It is sad to see old uncles playing min buyin at Macau and folding for 2 hours to ship AA pre and succout out by KQo..........

Poker players are improving everyday, your edge today will be gone tomorrow unless you keep improving. What are you gonna do if you find yourself 40 with no life skills and can't beat a 2/5 game?

Just my 2 cents worth......

that's basically a concern for everybody

take the IT tech who 10 years down the road is no longer in touch with the current tech unless he upgrades himself.

What I do not wish to see is all my friends and kakis grinding day and night the whole year long in the poker room.

A simple calculation, conservatively.

Average hourly rake for 1 table - $300
Multiple by 10 hours each day - $3,000
Multiple by 7 tables - $21,000
Mutilple by 30 days (1 month) - $630,000

Do our poker community have this amount to lose ??? Is there enough fishes ???

Poker is a player against player game. Of course there will be some who win more and some who lose more, but the percentages of winners and losers should be pretty close. It won't be a "win it all" situation.

I am not worried about lack of fishes or bad players. Hey, most people lose in casinos, but casinos are always full. See that?

- 1st, Malaysians regs will initially occupy the poker room ... bcos no levy for them
- then sg gambling uncles pick up the game and start playing regularly, you will be amazed how fast they pick the game. no theory, they just play the game on instinct.
- we know what this means where the $ will go to, until these uncles finish paying school fees honing the skills.
- before you realise, you would see tons of ang mos/ malaysians/ uncles/ some sg professionals on the waitlist to play.
- Some sg kids will eventually crush the games, quit school and become the nx poker superstar.

i forgot to add bomberman will quit online and park at RWS...

Yes, some will make it as a Pro, but hundreds will have their dreams crush, and end up in debt.

depends on how many fishes will find their way there.

Cos remember there are opportunity costs that the casino has to bear.

If they had blackjack there instead of poker , how much would they earn ?

blackjack $100/hour , poker $50 / hour ?

They might can the whole idea if the revenue isn't coming in.

On the whole , a poker room won't change much... but to those home games in SG , the might lose their whales to RWS. Depriving most home games of their income sources

You are so wrong abt percentages, cos 95% of players cannot beat the rake in the long run, unless you are talking about non raked game.

But you are correct that casinos are always full of losers.

I remember there was once appt or apt wanted to come and host in Singapore but was rejected by the government. It will be nice to have tournament held by our casinos here. Don't have to start with big scale tournament but daily sit and go like what Macau is doing will be good as well.

the title itself is bullsh#t. We are talking abt poker.. this is not a charitable organisation or platform.. btw, when ppl put things into perspective, they are losers of this game n trying to find a reason to justify why they r losers.. when they lose money in stock mkt, they blame the manupilation or insiders n so on n so forth.. but hey, we need these ppl to feed us.. What a great post!!!!
